Mayor’s Message
Status of Green Acres Funding
As we work to pursue every source of funding possible for our Borough, I would like to give you an update on the Status of Green Acre funding for the Haledon Reservoir property.
Franklin Lakes was awarded $300,000 in 2007 and $300,000 in 2008. Unfortunately, due to the limit of legislative appropriations, those funds have not yet been allocated to our town. In a 2008 letter of encouragement from Lisa Jackson, former Commissioner of the New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection and now the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, she wrote “We look forward to working with Franklin Lakes Borough toward the successful completion of this important project.”
We have applied for funding yet again in the 2009 cycle of allocations. We hope for another affirmative responsive and look forward to the time when the State budget allows enough refunding of this program to award Franklin Lakes these funds.
Email Question of the Week
In answer to this week’s email question: “Why is Rec. being taken over by the Y?”
The answer is: “We are not.”
Last month the Wyckoff Y asked to make a presentation before the Recreation Committee.
There are no plans to contract with any agency for our Recreation & Parks programs or facilities. We want our families to continue to enjoy Recreation as a town venture and look to the strength and energy of all of our volunteers throughout the year to make this happen. Our successful programs with the enthusiastic participation of our children and parents are vital to our community. This weekend you will witness that energy at the Franklin Lakes Invitation Lacrosse Tournament on the Municipal Fields.
Thank you to all of our coaches and volunteers on Boards, Committees and Commissions. Franklin Lakes is truly a wonderful town!
As always, please contact me with your comments and ideas or to volunteer for Franklin Lakes.
Have a great weekend!
Maura
