Mayor’s Message
On behalf of the Mayor and Council I wish everyone a healthy and happy Holiday Season.
Franklin Lakes remains blessed in the beauty of our surroundings and the dedication of our officials and volunteers. It is the interest and energy of residents like you that has allowed us to accomplish so much during the past year and we look forward to your continued involvement as we broaden our efforts to maintain all that is important to the quality of life in our town.
Two of our young men, Captain Lloyd Osafo and Captain James Coker, are currently serving in Iraq. If you or your family would like to send them a message or package of support, please call Nancy Yarish at the Mayor’s Office, 201-891-0048 x1204 for their addresses. If you are aware of any other residents currently on active duty please let us know.
As the Holidays are upon us so are seasonal activities that we wish to prevent. Our Police ask that you continue to take routine precautions to keep Franklin Lakes safe. Please read their recommendations included below. Most importantly lock your doors and your cars and if you see anything unusual call the Police desk at 201-891-3131.
As always I welcome your comments, concerns and of course your participation.
Thank you.
Maura
Holiday Safety Message from the Franklin Lakes Police Department
During the holidays, many residents will be leaving their homes for an extended period of time. Here are some helpful tips to remember before leaving for the holidays:
Make sure all doors and windows are properly secured.
When leaving home for an extended time, have a neighbor or family member watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail.
If you choose to leave items of high value in your residence, make sure that you have recorded the serial numbers. It is recommended that you mark or engrave your property with your driver’s license number, so that it can be identified as your property.
Display of valuables should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home.
Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer.
A radio or television should also be left on a timer so the house looks and sounds occupied.
Contact the Franklin Lakes Police (201-891-3131) if your residence will be unoccupied for an extended period during the holiday season. We will check your home daily.
For those residents who will be celebrating the holidays at home, here are some holiday crime prevention tips:
Keep the outside of your home well-lit with doors locked and window curtains closed.
Don’t display gifts beneath the Christmas tree that can be seen from windows or doors.
After the holidays, don’t advertise gifts received by the boxes left for the garbage collection. Destroy boxes and place in a sealed, non-clear garbage bag.
If you have any questions or concerns contact the Franklin Lakes Police Department @ 201-891-3131.
