Paramus Veterans Home Residents Dine at VFW Post 5702
Approximately 20 residents of the Paramus Veterans home recently enjoyed a pasta and meatball dinner at Franklin Lakes VFW Post 5702. The dinner, arranged by Post 5702 Service Officer Bob Linz, is part of Post 5702’s effort to serve veterans of all ages.
Assisting post members with the dinner were members of the Peer Leadership Corps of the Franklin Avenue Middle School. Under the direction of school Guidance Counselor Bill Gorton, these Franklin Lakes students helped provide assistance to those veterans who were not ambulatory, brought meals to the tables, and socialized with visiting veterans. Many of the veterans indicated how welcome they felt, and how pleased they were with the food as well as the company.
The meal is one of three dinners planned for these veterans that will be hosted by VFW Post 5702. Two additional dinners are planned for July 26, 2010 and August 23, 2010. In addition, the post also visits the Paramus Home several times a year to host Bingo games, and provides cash prizes for those with winning Bingo cards.
