Mayor’s Message - July 16, 2010

Dear Friends,

While on vacation in Texas visiting my young Navy Ensign, I took time to participate in an important conference call from Governor Christie to a select group of New Jersey mayors following his signing of the 2% budget cap bill.  He explained to us the importance of supporting the next step to budget reform — providing an effective Toolkit so that all government agencies will be more efficient and accountable to taxpayers.  This includes operating with a business-like approach, using best practices to hold down costs and maintain quality of life for our citizens.  Further reform from Trenton will be necessary in dealing with the rising costs of health benefits, pension payments and utilities. In recent years, Franklin Lakes has benefited greatly from the experience and knowledge volunteered by many of our residents.  Your input is valuable and welcome.

This past Wednesday, I had the Police Department send out a Reverse 911 to inform you about recent activity in our community.  This call was not meant to scare you, rather to ask that you be vigilant and proactive.  Franklin Lakes has recently experienced nighttime home burglaries that have occurred when families were sleeping.  The Franklin Lakes Police Department is following up and your attentiveness will help keep your family and our community safe.  Please lock all doors and windows before going to bed.  Lock your cars and don’t leave keys in the ignition.  If you have an alarm, use it.  If you see anything suspicious, call 911 or the Franklin Lakes Police Department at 201-891-3131.  Thank you.

As always, you can contact me at mayor@franklinlakes.org or call Nancy Yarish at 201-891-0048 x1204.

Enjoy this weekend and stay safe!
Maura
