Love in the Lake

fishkiss2The last week has brought some of the finest weather Bergen County has seen all year, perhaps just a warm, comforting treat before the holiday season ushers in the winter weather. It’s still no reason to look a gift horse in the mouth, or a prized catch from some fall fishing. Some consider Autumn to be one of the finest seasons of the year for fishing with more comfortable weather, less bugs, and in October the full glory of the season’s colors.

New Jersey has a fall stocking schedule for lakes and streams, and in the FLOW area the Wanaque River and Ramapo River were stocked in the second week of October. Two-year old brook, brown and rainbow trout, averaging 14 -16 inches are released in the rivers, Wanaque getting 330 and Ramapo 870. SuburbanAnglers.com offers some tips for trout fishing in upper reaches of the Hackensack River at http://blog.suburbanglers.com.

The accompanying video, and others available at: http://www.youtube.com/user/burgoking, is a music video reflecting the conquest of a largemouth bass dubbed “The Hog of the Lake” caught and released in Franklin Lakes, NJ. Releasing such a prized catch is a reminder that fishing for many is part sport and part poetry in action. While the fisherman in question catches a prize fish, the music and the video appear to capture a moment of perfection.
