NEW GARBAGE AND RECYCLING CONTRACTOR
As of September 1, 2010, the Borough of Franklin Lakes will have a new hauler picking up garbage and recycling from its residents. Gaeta Recycling Co., Inc., of Paterson, was awarded the contract for picking up garbage and recycling through 2012 at the August 3 meeting of the Mayor and Council, following a public bidding process.
Under the new contract, the hauler will be picking up garbage twice a week from April through September, and only once a week from October through March. Hence, beginning October 1, there will be garbage collection once a week for all residents - Mondays for those currently with Monday/Thursday collection and Tuesdays for those currently with Tuesday/Friday collection. Under the prior contract, collection was two times a week year round. There will be no change in the recycling collection schedule.
With this new contract, the Borough will no longer be providing leaf collection services. Given the small number of residents who utilized this service, it was not cost effective. Residents may bring their leaves to the Borough’s leaf compost facility on DeKorte Drive.
