Franklin Lakes Memorial Day Parade Promises To Be Exciting
Monday, May 28 at 9:00 AM
Join us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes at the annual Franklin Lakes Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 28 at 9:00 AM. The parade begins on Commerce Street and proceeds down Franklin Avenue to Veterans’ Plaza where there will be a ceremony commemorating our military heroes. All participants marching in the parade should line up at Commerce Street at 8:45 AM. All military personnel are encouraged to participate.
To help celebrate, the famous Newark Firefighters Pipe Band will be marching with the Ramapo High School band. Accompanying them will be this year’s Grand Marshal, Franklin Lakes resident Dan Leskanic, who served in the United States Air Force and won many awards and commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (8 times), National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Military transport vehicles, representatives from the town’s Fire, Ambulance, and Police departments, “Field of Dreams,” Franklin Lakes Recreation teams, Municipal Alliance, Girls, Boys and Cub Scouts, and several local and volunteer organizations will also be participating along with antique vehicles including five priceless cars from the Hoogerheydes.
As part of the Mayor’s Wellness Program, a Community Bike-A-Thon sponsored by “Camp No Limits” will be held at the Municipal Field immediately following the ceremony. All Franklin Lakes children are invited to decorate their bicycles, participate in the parade, and join in the event.
